We are extremely pleased to announce that the public beta test of Control Runner v5 has just started!

How to participate in the beta

This is a public beta, so to participate all you have to do is to visit the beta page, download the appropriate version (32 or 64-bit) according to your version of Windows and install it on your system. In case of doubt, we recommend the 64-bit version if your computer is not too old.

Control Runner v5 requires Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 10. Any computer capable of running any of these versions of Windows should be capable of running Control Runner.

Release notes

The first beta launched today includes all the planned functionality for Control Runner v5 with the following exceptions:

  • There is no help file yet: Clicking on the help buttons will result in the error shown below. This is normal behavior so you don’t need to report it.
  • The Minimize to tray and Minimize to hidden have not been implemented yet.

Existing users of Control Runner

You can install Control Runner v5 alongside with older versions without uninstalling your existing version yet. If fact, although we have been testing internally the release candidate and it seems to be stable, we recommend that you do not uninstall Control Runner v4 until you are satisfied with the new version.

Control Runner will read your old configuration files so you will get exactly the same buttons and most of your existing options, except of course for these features that have been discontinued. Control Runner 5 stores its configuration in a different location, so your existing configuration will not be modified.

On the other hand, please note that the changes made in one version will not be updated to the other version after the initial import of your old configuration by Control Runner v5.

If you have Control Runner v4 to Auto-Start when Windows start, you might want to remove the option to prevent having the old and new versions open simultaneously.

New users of Control Runner

If you are not a registered user of Control Runner you can participate in the beta but you will be evaluating the Free Lite version of Control Runner with some limitations:

  • The number of buttons on each tab is limited to 20 (5 rows and 4 columns)
  • The number of tabs is limited to 5 (plus the Start page)
  • Some advanced options for launched programs will be unavailable. Currently prevent a second instance, and when implemented: Minimize to Tray and Minimize to Hide

If you like Control Runner, you can take advantage of a special discount to buy Control Runner Pro for 50% of the normal price ($9.95 instead of $19.95) the discount will be available until the beta test finalizes. To take advantage of the discount use the code CR5BETA when ordering the product.
